Hello,

My stock cooler (AMD A10-5800k) was running a little louder than usual, so I decided to try to check my CPU temps. I have 3 programs on my PC that report core temp. Piriform Speccy, SpeedFan, and AMD OVERDRIVE. I opened each one of these programs, and they each reported a completely different CPU temp! I have attached a screenshot of this. The most intensive thing I was doing when it was taken was running a zillion and 1/2 tabs in Chrome.

Which one of these temps should I believe?

Solution
I use aida64 to check temps and it's accurate, although I must say that the 5800k runs quite hot on heavy loads with a stock cooler. I have mine running at 4.3Ghz but with a CM GeminII S, 60c max and stable. Only used the thermal paste that came with the cooler so maybe that's why it is that hot :p

Thanks for the quick reply!

I downloaded CoreTemp, and as shown in the screen below, only reports a temp of 0C. I guess that leaves AMD, because I have too many tabs open to reboot into UEFI.

One more question,
does "Thermal Margin" mean something different than temperature? (AMD Overdrive)

Hey scout_03,

The setting in SpeedFan does nothing. First of all, it reports all my fans at 0 RPM, and whether I set the speed at 0% or 100%, may fan still stays the same.

Also, at the time I took that shot (Like 5min ago), my CPU was at about 25% load. I have Tuniq TX-2, but, like I said, only the stock cooler.

Earlier toady, I placed an order for an Arctic Alpine 64 Plus, which should show up Thursday, and I'll report back on how that went.

on speed fan on the first page check the auto for fan speed then all the temp on the second one all the fan on the third after the voltages one then speed then when speed is check press one of them at the time and put the aotu for all the one you see also the max value should be at 100 % for the cooler try to get argtic cooling mx2 or mx4 as thermal paste .

I've used speccy, hwmonitor, core temp, real temp and Ai suite on my pc. What I found was that Ai suite was totally unreliable as far as actually reading the temps, but the fan expert settings were spot on for ramping the fans. Speccy reported the same avg temps as core, real and hwmonitor, all within 1-2 degrees of each other. That's close enough for me, so I'd say speccy would be fine, its easier to read than hwmonitor anyways, which is antiquated software, mostly non applicable to modern CPUs.
