Ok, myself and my mother are trying to install an Nvidia Geforce GT 630 graphics card into our computer which has an asus p5g41t-m lx3 motherboard which should be compatible with the graphics card and has an onboard card which is what we have been using up until this point. The problem is, we can't get the system to detect the graphics card in the device manager. I have tried playing with the settings in the northbridge of the chipset in the bios but there is no change. I have heard that I need to change the primary graphics adapter to pci e but that option doesnt show up and there isnt one to change it from the onboard card. Any suggestions?

You can choose the order in which the PC selects a primary video controller.
In single video card mode use the top (blue) PCI Express x16 slot. Choose GFX0 as first in the order (default value) to use the top (blue) PCI Express x16 slot first.

* GFX0: primary controller on a PCIe x16 slot <<< this is the one You need to set :)
* GPP: primary controller on a PCIe x1 slot
* IGFX: onboard VGA port
* PCI: primary video controller on a PCI slot
