Yes 2560x1080 xD

I am going to buy a new gpu and I have found both the r290x and 780 phantom GLH for roughly the same right. $50 more for the r290x. What would you guys recommend? Currently running dual 7870's and as much as I love them, half the games I run don't often use the second card and 2gb is not enough for a lot of the games I use. Also I would appreciate a detailed reason if possible, as to why one is better than the other. I have looked online and these two seem to be clashing very often >_>

Note: I run games with tons of modded textures, shogun 2 with twice the allotted units, etc...

^_^ I really appreciate any input that can be given on this. Also as a LONG time AMD/Radeon user, I have little experience with NVIDIA, but their approach in syncing technologies has peaked my interested, otherwise I would have just gone AMD.

Kind Regards

Solution
I wouldn't say better but more such equivalent, with both cards excelling in different areas, with the R9 290 performing better at great resolutions due to the wider bus and extra 1GB GDDR5 Vram.
R9 290X is better, And at higher resolutions has been tested to crush the GTX 780, save your money and get the R9 290, that'll still be better then the GTX 780, but for far less. If you'd like more in-depth, glad to start an argument with Nvidia fanboy if that's what you may want :)

I would normally skip a generation, but during my last jump, I didn't take VRAM into consideration, otherwise I would have gone with a 7950 setup... Would the r290x provide a better overall experience then the 7870's? If I am wrong, I would appreciate somebody slapping some sense into me, if there isn't an improvement xD Thanks mate though, for the prompt response!

I would go for the r9 290 or the gtx 780 if you want to do extreme overclock.

I will be clear the r9 290 is overkill for 1080p gaming I have over 100 fps on battlefield 4 it is meant for the 2k and over resolutions like 1440p and 1600p because of the memory bus and vram of this.

I think you will be OK with the r9 290 on that resolution 2560x1080

R9 290X would be better over dual 7870's, always better to have one more powerful GPU over two weaker GPU's, the R9 290X is a very strong GPU currently, i went from a 7990 (dual 7970's) to R9 290X, don't regret it.

Okay I am looking at the r290, is that still worth the improvement over the dual 7870's? I have $650, but I would rather not blow it all on a gpu >_> If there is enough of an improvement to warrant the $440 price tag? PS I am in AUS, so I know our gpu's are overpriced xD

Okay seriously considering it now! So you are sure that it is better than the 780gtx GHL for $515? Most money I have ever spent on a gpu before! XD PS Yes I am still researching for myself ^_^

Hmm okay seems that it will be the r290 then, the x version is 620+ >_> I can get a decent cooler for the my i7 with that difference xD Hopefully shogun 2 will benefit from this :') One can hope.
