hello can anyone recommend me the best gpu for rp games and strategy games at 1920x1080 which will also be good for upcoming games like grey goo(rts) and civilization beyond earth?
current game i'm playing is age of wonders 3. i would like to play at max quality. i don't play fps/tps games cause i get dizzy in a few minutes.

my current cpu is a phenom ii x4 955 and gpu is radeon hd4770. also please suggest if i need to upgrade my cpu as well to handle your gpu suggestion or if i need to ugrade for future games as well like the civilization game.

thanks.

edit: i forgot i play mmo's too since i haven't played one lately. please suggest a gpu that would get high fps at max quality for upcoming mmo's as well.

I play alot of Civilization 5 Brave New World with a 7850 HD 2GB and other RTS games on 1920X1080 and it's really great for the purpose so you can easily get away with that card. It also does nicely in BF4 and any other shooters in 1920x1080. When I need the extra juice I can overclock it to match a 7870 on stock voltage but only do it when playing Skyrim with mods and really heavy 3D rendering games.

Anything around and higher than the 7850 HD will suit your needs nicely but I wouldn't go under that if you want to be a bit "future proof".
If you have a weak PSU you may want to go for the GTX 750 ti.. Any of the cards in the following link will probably suit your current needs

If you want a bit "future proofing" go for the R9 270...

Look through the whole article in the link I provided above and go look at some benchmarks.

PS. I'm not an AMD fanboy these are just the best performance cards for your needs compared to the price in my opinion. Good hunting.

Also a good indicator which cards to look at if you set 7850 HD as a reference:

Your current card is also in that list.

Depending on your budget, any of these cards should have no problem getting the job done at 1080p for the next couple of years. What are your complete computer specs, motherboard, PSU ect? I prefer NVIDIA but it comes down to budget, and what you are looking for in a GPU.

NVIDIA
GTX 760 $259: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130932&cm_re=gtx_760-_-14-130-932-_-Product
GTX 770 $349: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121770&cm_re=gtx_770-_-14-121-770-_-Product

AMD
280X $299: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121803&cm_re=280X-_-14-121-803-_-Product

Keep in mind AMD card use a little more power and run slightly hotter, so you want to make sure you have a good quality PSU, and good airflow in your case.

If you have a budget to aim for that would be easier for the forum to recommend you a card that suits you. Also please provide the model of your PSU since this is important for compatibility.
I would still think the R9 270 is a good card for your MMO needs.

i can afford a sapphire tocic 270x but i'm not sure if it will max rpg's strategy games and mmo's including upcoming ones. like smooth fps at max quality. i don't mind nudging down some special effects to reach that like shadows and stuff. would i need a 280x for that so i dont need to remove shadows etc...?

thanks guys i chose the 280x toxic from sapphire just in case i get 1440p so my bro can have my monitor. what cpu would be best for it also for the cpu intensive games i'd be playing? my choices are 8320, 8350 and a i5 4670k. i know they're not the same but i would save for the extra money needed if it is really worth it or needed. this pc wll be purely for gaming btw.
