Hello there,

I just bought a msi r9 280x graphics card and I saw that the website recommended a 750 watt power supply.

I currently have a 550 watt power supply, would this be enough or do I need to get a 750 watt power supply?

550 Watt does seem a bit low on watts for the graphics card.
A good 650 Watt would work but its always recommended to use a 750 Watt as if the power consumption is high or the PSU isn't outputting enough power the system will shut down.
Hope this helps!

What 550W do you have. If it is a good quality brand then it should work fine. It is the Amps on the 12V rails you should worry about. The card itself takes 21 amps. it is better to find a power supply that has at least 40amps on the 12V rails for the whole system.

I currently have a brand called HKC but that isn't a very good brand I think.
What kind of power suply would you recommend me?

750W for a single GPU? A 750W should be able to run a CF/SLI setup.

There are a number of HKC 550W PSUs online, I'm not sure which one you have. Some appear to be ok, while others I wouldn't touch at all. If it has the 8pin plug you need you'll be ok. If you have to use adapters to get this working, upgrade the PSU before you try using it. A 450-500W unit should be fine, so a good 550W should be ok.
