Will the fx-8350 work with a m5a97 pro rev 1. I read it would but is this only with rev 2 of the board? I have correct bios version but get a red light below CPU.

Solution
This board says it supports up to 140w TDP CPU. But I've often seen this in reference to the Phenom II x6 line when overclocked.

The FX 8320/8350 draw more current, even though they have the same stock TDP.

I cannot get to a supported CPU list for the 1.0 board so I am concerned it may not be supported. :(

If you need a good budget replacement board, I'd suggest this:

8+2 phase power
Extreme LLC
Supports up to FX 8350

This will be fine as long as you stick with a single high end GPU. You only need to look at 990FX boards for Crossfire/SLI support with 2 PCIe @ x16.

* I recently got an FX 6350 to 4.950 GHz stable on this board with a final 24x7 OC @ 4.8375 GHz.

I am assuming rev 2 refers to the R2.0 version. I would go for R2.0 as well (at least that's what I'm getting for my FX 6300). From what I know (forgive me if I'm wrong), the R2.0 version only, makes it to Asus ROG class (albeit in the LOWEST TIER). So if you are looking for even a minute shred of overclocking hope, go for R2.0.

that makes a tough call if you all ready got the board up and running and it needs a bios update to use the new chip then its good but if the bios don't support the chi[ and you don't have a supported chip to get in to the bios to flash it then your stuck and more than likely have to get a supported chip to get the bios flashed to be able to support the new chip

I sure hope I got all that right [??]

asus did this with my sabertooth they came out with the 2.0 and just removed the 1.0 from there site completely but after I assume lots of hate mail it was back after about 2 months another reason I don't look at asus anymore...

I am stumped. The old box I have does not say rev 2 and the motherboard does not say rev 2. The CPU is definitely not sitting how it should. Could it be its compatible with rev 2 and not one.

AM3+ IS AM3+ DONT FORGET TO BESURE THE ALINEMENT ARROW ON THE CHIP IS LINED UP WITH THE ONE ON THE SCOCKET EAVEN IF IT WAS ONE OF THE FIRST CONVERTED BOARDS [BLACK SCOCKET] IT SHOULD STILL GO... ARE YHOU SURE YOU DID NONT BEND A PIN OE A PIN FROM THEE OLD CHIP BROK OFF AND IS STUCK IN THE HOLE??
