Hello, a quick question here, I am planning on installing windows 7 on a new hard drive, which will be connected to my old motherboard which ran my computer for 3 years. Will the motherboard retain any old settings i.e. will there be any complications which I should watch out for, or will it be as if I'm installing the OS for the first time? This is pretty urgent.. thanks in advance!

It depends upon what you do to "install" Windows 7. If you image the drive, and restore that image to the new drive, it will be exactly as it was before. If you boot from the DVD, and install Windows 7 from the DVD, it will be a "new install" - meaning you might have to find the drives for the old mobo/computer components.

Thanks for your quick response! Yeah I am booting it from a DVD, and yes I am aware that I'll have to reinstall all the drivers and software. I'm just wondering if the motherboard (very newbly put) will somehow recognize that the HDD it's been working with suddenly went missing, and I won't be able to install windows on the new empty HDD..

Windows doesn't know where you are installing it....when you activate windows (put in the product key), this is when you might have issues. I would suggest skip putting in the product key until after your installation is complete (you have 30 days), and do it then. It may require a phone call to Microsoft to activate.
