Today I was working on my grandfather's computer and instantly I noticed how sluggish it was working. I opened the task manager and saw that the CPU usage was 100% and the process taking up all of that was titled "iexplorer.exe *32." Thing is, I never had Internet Explorer open. Is this a virus? He has Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS.

Possibly. It could be a malicious program masquerading as Internet Explorer, or it could be an IE plugin that's running. Take a look at the process command line that was used to invoke the process. If it matches that of the actual internet explorer (C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe) then it's probably an errant plugin or toolbar. They're notorious for being very poorly written.
