Perhaps a GTX780? They are available on Tiger for about $499.

Think you could be more specific as to why get a 780? i was reading a lot and some said the 770 is better due to its 4gb. compared to the 780 3gb

More CUDA cores and ROPUs.

3 gig is more than enough for games now and in to the future. The 4 gig would come im handy if you are doing more development or rendering or running a 4k monitor.

You could get a 680 or 770 as well for a little cheaper, but the 780 will be more "future proofing"

I have a gtx 780 acx and it runs everything maxed out.

If you only want NV, the GTX 780 is the best card for that much. Don't get two 760's or something like a 4GB 770. Just get one badass 3GB 384-bit GTX 780 and if possible a non-reference one like an Asus DCUII, GB Windforce or EVGA ACX. That card can handle pretty much any game out in 1080p with maxed out detail and should last a very long time especially considering how much it costs.

BTW, what are you doing with your 7970? You should still be able to play most games in high or very high in 1080p no problem with that card and get at least 30 FPS or higher. After the bitcoin crash, people are dumping 7970s and 280xes all over for under $200. I saw a 280x selling for $160 shipped today on ebay that is only 3 months old. Adding another one of those in CFX would be what I would do seeing that you already have the PSU and motherboard for it. But, a single 780 would be the ideal solution. More expensive but ideal.

So the 780 would play watch dogs better than the 770? i was reading around and some users mention that if i plan to mod games with high end textures the 770 would be better because sometimes more than 3gb vram is used so the 770 would be better.

Why nvidia only? Do you do much rendering?

Here are some benchmarks. $ for performance the 290x is better. That is for gaming tho . Depending on your applications you're using it for should be your deciding factor. If you're doing a lot of rendering, cad, or anything along those lines nvidia is better. If you're gaming only I'd go with and cards.

Would you say the 290x is more future proof than the 780? another reason i want nvidia is because of physx and Watchdogs yes just cause of watchdogs.

Just run Physx off your CPU, you got plenty of cores with the 8350 that it won't even be breaking a sweat doing it and you probably couldn't tell the difference on your rig between onboard Physx and CPU Physx. As for the 3GB 780 vs 4GB 770, if you are playing in 1080p then the 780 will own the 4GB 770 simply because it has way more CUDA cores and a better memory bus (384-bit vs 265-bit). Unless you are running triple monitors or 1440p and up then the 1GB is not going to make any difference at all. You probably will never even use more than 2 GB as long as you stay in 1080p single monitor. The 290X is definitely more comparable to a Titan or 780ti than a 780; in fact it is somewhere right in between those two cards. It was dubbed the "Titan killer" when it was released because at the time it was almost tied with the Titan as the most powerful single chip gaming GPU out until the 780ti was released. As long as you get a non-reference 290x, you will get performance about even with the Titan in most games (some games it is slightly better, some slightly worse) for around half the price and performance within a few % of a 780ti for still way less. The 780 is on the same level as the 290 non-x. There really is no such thing as future proofing but the 290x should out last a 780 if all you need it for is gaming. And if you ever plan on higher resolutions or more monitors, the 4GB 512-bit GDDR5 on the 290x will come in handy.

Actually, the R9 290X performs better in straight up computer performance.

If you meant "compute" then, yes, even the HD 7970 and R9 280x perform significantly better than the Titan which is only due to the way CUDA cores work vs stream processors. I'm not exactly sure about all the technical stuff but it takes a single CUDA core something like 3x longer to do the same computation than it does for a stream processor. This is why AMD cards basically shat on Nvidias when it came to crypto mining and other raw data processing. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7457/the-radeon-r9-290x-r... If you notice in those tests, the Titan and 780 own FP64 performance even though Nvidia severely crippled the 780's FP64 performance so it wouldn't eat into the Titan's sales. When it comes to gaming and 3D graphics performance, though, the 290x and Titan are on a relatively level playing field.

Cub is correct with what he has to say about physx on the cpu etc. As far as future proofing goes, if you get a 290x at a good price now, when it comes time where you are needing more gpu power you can just buy another 290x run it in crossfire and you will be more then adequate again. With the price point being low now, by the time it comes to the point where you need this, they will be really inexpensive.

If you can still find one when you need another. I am hiving trouble finding a matching GTX 460 768MB for SLI, although they are incredibly cheap.
