I am looking at buying a xfx r9 290 double dissipation from eBay. The card was used in a mining rig. Both fans on the card don't spinn and the card does not output video. The light that said xfx does light up though. I have a friend with an extra xfx cooler from when he did a diy loop that is for the card. Do you think that the card can be fixed?

Solution
If it's not outputting video and the fans don't spin it's probably dead. Those cards have been out for less then a year... if it's not working and the original owner didn't rma it, it means that he probably did something to it to void the warranty. He would get a lot more money for a working card, but hasn't bothered to do so means it's probably shot. It might be recoverable, but I would be hesitant. Ask him to throw it in a machine and take a screen shot of a cpuz where it recognizes the card.

Personally I wouldn't do it.

It is possible, but if the seller is selling it cheap enough for you to run that risk go for it. Otherwise you are buying a paperweight. The only way to really find it out would to have him put it into a system for you and have him send a screen shot with a program that will let you know that it is being recognized. Just because the lights are turning on doesn't mean the system is recognizing it.

As I said, I wouldn't. If you find it cheap enough that you are willing to take the risk go for it.
