Ram Speed Question

I have 16gb of DDR3 2133MHz ram in my pc. On speccy is shows it as running at 800MHz. I understand that typically you need to double this so it would be 1600MHz. So my question is, why is is still running roughly 500MHz under what it says? My theory is my motherboard supports 2200, 1600, 1333 and so on. So since is isn't 2200, does it just bump it down to 1600MHz? Thanks for any help.

When first installing RAM it is recognized at the SPD (default) speed and timings. Go into BIOS and set it up correctly to get the advertised speeds. Depending on the MB and CPU, you might even be able to OC it some. Most new memory kits will OC fairly easily to at least the next step up.

What MB and CPU do you have?

Go nto the BIOS and enable XMP, then select profile 1 - it will set the sticks to the correct freq, your mobo may run DRAM faster than what the freq of the DRAM you have, so you could try OCing it, but think with your combo, prob best to stick with the DRAM's spec freq

This is the ram I have installed. I enabled XMP and selected the first profile. I left performance mode as standard and Dram Timing Selectable as Auto and when my computer restarted it gave me some sort of error and defaulted back. It mentioned something about overclocking and the voltages. Sorry I have never messed with this before, but I do appreciate all the help.

Is the optimized defaults somewhere else in the bios? Also, I gave my motherboard number and processor model in an earlier post, was that not the information you needed?

Oh I see, I guess I wasn't fully aware I was limited by the CPU I had. It states it's running at 1600MHz though which is cool now that I know that. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.
