Due to ignorance installed Windows8 on my Dell laptop mini but found it useless because the screen resolution was to low. reinstalled Windows7. Now have 2 operating systems occupying most of the hard drive. Wish to delete Windows8 without affecting the other programs. Not sure how to go about it without doing something damaging. Can anyone help

Screen resolution improves when you install the video drivers. Maybe you'd want to install them and keep Windows 8. If not, all you have to do is format the drive but if you have files in the Win 8 drive that you want to keep, you can simply delete the "Program files" folder, (two program files folders if a 64 bit system), the "Users" folder, and the "Windows" folder. It may take you quite a while to delete Windows 8 manually so you may want to format the drive after moving personal files out of the Win8 partition. Don't understand what you mean by "Wish to delete Windows8 without affecting the other programs"... so clear that up if you still need advice on it.

To format the drive; right click on Start / Computer / select Manage / click Disk Management / right click on the Win 8 partition / and select Format. Next type a partition name, select NTFS and check the box in Perform a quick Format, and click OK.
