Hello. I was wondering if I could get some advice please My name is Becky and I am very computer Illiterate. I belong to the website Ancestry.com and have so much family information on my computer. I am so afraid that my computer will bite the bullet and the information will be lost forever. What is the easiest and best external hard drive to purchase please. I thank you all so much. Becky

I got your PM, Becky - in fact i got two and I think one of them was meant for Phillip - but neither of us suggested getting a wireless external disk. That would involve a NAS and that's way over your needs. The link Phillip posted to Amazon looks good - my suggestion was just the "save money" option.
It really matters not which one you choose. You only plug it in when you need to transfer data to it so any hard disk in any caddy - even if bought separately - will do the job and because an external disk isn't spinning at 7200 r.p.m all the time the PC is turrned on, it will last longer than the internal disk which does have to do all that work.

The most important thing to remember is that the external disk is only realy safe if it's kept in a solid, fireproof box when not in use.
