Laptop crashing in most games

Hi so I have a reasonable gaming laptop - about 9 months old - which runs some things such as Diablo 3 and ffIV on reasonably high settings fine but then crashes/freezes in a lot of other games, usually graphically intensive ones (although I can run them on pretty high settings with no performance issues) sometimes it's a complete lock up.. sometimes I can get back to desktop - it can be after an hour or more often about 5-20 mins.

Any ideas? I'm wondering if it could be to do with overheating? I haven't messed with anything since I bought it.. just updated drivers.

I have:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60GHz
GeForce GT 650M/PCIe/SSE2 (8086-0166) (latest driver)
Windows 7 64-bit build 7601 [Service Pack 1]
8 gb ram

PC wizard tells me:
CPU: 3180.85 MHZ
CPU temp 59c
core 1 Load: 4%
core 2 Load: 6%
GFX 1: 47c
Load 0%

A side note is that I have just bought an xbox game pad to use with it which seems to make those same games crash even more quickly if that means anything?

Any help much appreciated as pretty frustrating now as part the reason I bought this thing was to play these games!

Hello,

If your CPU is 59c just running PC-Wizard, you probably are dealing with overheating... Get a can of air and blow out the vents.. You may also consider a laptop cooling pad, which do help with thermals. you might tr;y stress testing cpu and video card separately using Prime95 for the CPU and FurMark for the GPU to see if one or the other locks system up specifically (use only 1 at a time at first)

That is highly discretionary but is the best way to clean the fan(s) and cooling fins...some notebooks are "relatively" easy to disassemble and some are a nightmare... I cannot recommend it as that type of work should be done in a static safe environment. AKA "your mileage may vary"

I've literally just switched it on again after cleaning it and leaving it off for 30 mins and cpu temp showing as 55c. Surely that can't be right? Can barely feel any warmth from it. Could the temp sensor be malfunctioning?

Hmm games are crashing even quicker now if anything. Not sure what I was looking for with Prime95 or Furmark but nothing happened.

Any other ideas? Thanks again.
