Hi,

I am currently using a sabertooth 990fx with a phneom II X6 1090t, and I'm thinking about an upgrade. 2 months ago my upgrade would have been a i5-4670k and a rog hero vi. But now I hear a lot of rumours about new CPU's and some have already appeared.
I'm also hearing more and more about DDR4...
So my question is: Is it safe to buy a PC now or should I wait till 2h 2014?

More about : buy

You could wait and get a 4690K with a Maximus VII Hero, they are coming out pretty soon. Or you could wait until this time next year for Broadwell CPUs.

Why don't you just upgrade your processor?
There is the list of compatible processors, it is mighty long:

An FX-8000 series would be a real upgrade, can come real close to an i5-4670k...

The FX series is dead, would be better to move to a newer more up to date socket.

I certainly don't agree with this. Future is to multi-core, and the 8350 features 8 cores. It's performance is quite on par with an i5-4440, for about the same price (180USD). He would not need to change his system (RAM, motherboard, OS...). So this is a hell of a lot of advantages...

Well, look at Watch Dogs, supposedly utilises multiple cores and needs an FX 8350 for ultra, but a 4670K can actually get a few more frames in general.

I agree with you Dylzan, at this price pint, intel generally has an edge.

But again, for a few fps (provided the CPU IS bottlenecking, which will probably not be the case anyway...), is it worth it to change the motherboard, invest 100USD more easily (maybe buying an adapter for the CPU cooler as well) reinstall the whole stuff from scratch? For what, a 5-10% advantage over an fx8000?

I would not do it, that is absolutely sure... But we are discussing opinions..
