Hi I am having problems overclocking my i7 920, I dont remmeber the exact settings I used but no matter what I do once I hit around 3000hz it goes unstable. I have changed voltz settings according to guids etc.

I managed to get it to 3400, no issues with IntelBurnTestV2 it passes all the time, but then all of a sudden it will BSOD on chrome, task manager etc.

My CPU temps are under 60 so they are still pretty low so im stuck what to do. Even if I increase just a little I get issues what could be causing this? as I t cant be a heating issue as its actually still coolish even overclocked.

Update:
I got it to 3.6 ATM tested with real temp and prime95 for hour seems okay exept CPU core temps are around 65-70 stable easily jumps to 100 with prime 95 my settings...

Eist auto - for 21 ratio
Distaste disabled
C1e support disabled
Over speed disabled
CPU base 172
CPU ratio 21

Not sure how to change dram but they are on 9,9,9,24
PCI freq 100

Vdrop control low
CPU volt auto
Pll auto
Qui volt 1.250
Spread spectrum disabled.

Yeah works okay we'll seems to I just get really high temps...
Here is an IMG off Sensor testing on 3.6:

There are several factors that could be involved. When you overclocked, did you lock the fsb for your graphics card, or are you overclocking it as well. It could be going unstable. Also, you may have to increase your voltage a bit more to your CPU, BUT BE CAREFUL if you do! Another factor is your RAM. To me, it sounds like this is the most likely issue. Your ram may also need more voltage as well. But again, BE CAREFUL when adding voltage!

Just some things to look at.....

That seems about right. As far as the high temps, I would take a good look at your heatsink. If you are running the STOCK heatsink, those temps are EXACTLY what I would expect. Getting a better heatsink would help. Another factor is the airflow in your case. Make sure you got good fans blowing in your case to give your heatsink some good air.

Just remember, you ARE stressing your components, so you will have to deal with the extra heat.

Thanks for the advice I actually messed around a bit more with voltages I think I found a stable one with a few lowered! Stable temps are now 53-55, the sensor test was a sucess a lot better results than previously. The difference compared to the last test to TJMax was great. Fromt he first results it wouldnt even put 100% Pressure on the CPU but now it can and still passes the test look at the difference from here compared to the first post.

big difference in my opinion
