So,As some of you probably knew my old PC pretty much blew out, Resulting in the motherboard and probably the Processor dying. I decided to pretty much upgrade rather than fix my last build but I'm nearing the end of my budget and its got me wondering if I should use my old hard drive+RAM.

I was hoping to somehow install my Hard drive and keep all my files+Copy of windows, But was told that isn't possible. I'd atleast need to wipe my hardrive completely to re-use it, which I cant do because I only currently have a laptop!

Should I just stop being a bitch and spend 200 Pound on a fresh copy of windows 8, a hard drive and some new RAM?

Or is there anyway I can save a little $$ and re-use my components?

cheers!

You don't need another pc. Put the windows install disk in the drive and boot the it. When it asks you where to install windows, you can go to the advanced option on that window, and delete any existing partitions from your hard drive. Then install to the empty space, and it will create a new partition for you.

Depending on what RAM you have, and the motherboard of the new PC you are planning on getting you may be able to reuse it. If you are trying to re-use the code on a prebuilt machine (normally a COA sticker somewhere) it won't work with a different motherboard.

You will be able to re-use the hard drive, but upon installation of windows it will need formatting and re-partitioning for the new install.

I have 12GB of DDR3 RAM But I'm hoping to only install 8 of that 12GB.

Heres my current Specs >
GPU : MSI R9 280X
Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 3
Processor : Intel Core i5 4670K Quad Core
PSU : CX750W Corsair
CPU Cooler : 212 Evo Air cooler.

As for re-using the hard drive, How would I go about Formatting and partitioning?
Bare in mind, We have no other computer in the household apart from this Laptop which Im currently on.
