I recently built a new PC and installed Windows 8.1 64-bit on it. However, I am plagued with random hard freezes, after which nothing responds and the only way to continue is to press the reset button on the case. The freezes seem to happen randomly in different circumstances, among others while watching videos in VLC, browsing in Chrome, reading e-mail in Thunderbird, having Steam library window open, using MS Word, etc. The system also generates a bunch of errors frequently. Below are errors generated just before the latest freeze:

I'm having a similar issue. I built a new computer months ago and installed 8.1. It's working like a well oiled machine until last week when it suddenly locks up - anywhere from 30mins to an hour after booting up. It boots up fine but no matter what it locks up within the 30min to an hour time frame. Even if I don't log in and leave it at the log in prompt. I have tried looking at the event logs but there's nothing there with the time stamp of the crashes.

Also the windows CD says it can't perform a repair. I'm trying to avoid a reformat and reinstall, at least until I'm sure it's the OS and not the SSD drive. I've run a disk check while inside of windows on the SSD and it return no errors. So for now I'm scratching my head and...

It might be a problem with network card. Do you use TP-Link? - i'm asking because many cards of this manufacturer is making problems with Win 8 and 8.1
