At work I need an active VPN so that our support can connect in and fix software as we have a rural location

It has been set up by them but keeps failing. I got a local IT guy to fix it as im not great with networks. It has failed several times and is becoming expensive to fix each time. They are trying to dial into the company server

Currently use the free BT router that you get free (2 wire). I have a static IP.
I was told by a friend that if I change to a VPN compatible router it may fix the issue. He suggested a Draytek.

Wondering what you guys suggest?
What is the easiest way to set up and maintain the VPN?
Do I need a new router and if so which one (max budget is £200)?
And if I can manage to set it up myself or should use help (I am quite computer literate just not done much on networks)?

In a nutshell I need a VPN that will stay open and if not I need to be able to troubleshoot and fix the problem as funds are finite.

Thank you in advance for your help and sorry if I have missed anything out

LogMeIn is very good and easy setup for offsite support as well as TeamViewer. I prefer TeamViewer because user/client found its more user friendly GUI for them than LogMeIn. For more advance setup server/client vpn check out http://openvpn.net.
All above services are come with a prices for company work related. LogMeIn and Teamviewer also offers free private/personal use version of the software.

This is what I have been told. And I am looking for the best way to resolve this. As been quoted £200 per year for some 'special software' which I do not want to pay

A standard condition of the support contract is the ability to remotely access the system at our site. This access is secured via a VPN.
The major reason for the VPN access is to not only allow remote support via screen sharing and access to the server, but to also allow the development department run code against our live database should an urgent bug fix be required, and therby reduce factory downtime that will arise having to backup and copy a database to/from their development office. The VPN can also allow us access to other devices via local VNC connection.

Have you looked at the Asus router that sajidali27 suggested above? Cisco also makes some very good VPN capable routers.

I am not a pro and am not making a specific recommendation.

More I am sensing you have specific needs that have not been presented in your questions. Since you have to connect to a specific client's network, it might be be helpful for everyone to understand more technical details about the connection they require.
