I just installed a 212 Evo in a Define R4 case and I'm getting 29-33C idle and 60-65C under load(Prime95), are these temps high because I've seen people saying they get 45-55C under load.

Solution
This is a Haswell i5 4570! Haswells just run hotter, especially when stress testing with Prime95.

Your temps are just fine. Don't bother with new thermal paste.

Enjoy your computer and find something else to worry about.

It can't overclock, should I bother reapplying the thermal paste?

Yes. Always reapply the thermal paste.

Remember, always have a thermal paste dot a bit smaller than a BB, then let the cooler smash the paste down when you put it on. This has been tested and it is overall the best way to apply it because it ensures there are no air bubbles.

Hope that helps!

Before I reapply it, do you get 55C when running Prime95 or gaming? I only get 40-50C while gaming.

I have a different CPU. I have an AMD A10-5800K and it goes around 60C or so in Prime95, and that's with a Hyper TX3, a smaller and crappier version of the 212 EVO, so you really can't compare. It shouldn't get far above 60C though at MAX.

With the stock cooler I would get 80-90C so the 212 is a big improvement compared to stock.

60-65C isn't really dangerous for the i5, you want to avoid over 70 though, closer to 80 is not good at all. However, with that cooler I wouldn't think you would have over 60 as an average. I would definitely try reapplying some thermal paste, like some Arctic Silver 5 or something.

I fixed it, I unplugged all the cables, plugged them back in and it works again. I was so worried it was the CPU or mobo. Temps are still the same, I think it's just down to Haswell because they run a bit hotter or I've got a defected CPU.
