I built my first gaming PC a few months ago, and now I have some extra money to spend on upgrades (about $275 to spend). My current build is as follows:

CPU: FX-6300
GPU: PowerColor Devil R9 270x
RAM: 2x4Gb Ripjaws X 1866Mhz
MOBO: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
CASE: Antec One
PSU: EVGA 500W Bronze
Cooling: stock fans

Here is what I was thinking for an upgrade:

  • ■ Purchase second 270x
    ■ Get better cooling
    ■ Sell PSU and buy this Rosewill 630W PSU.

Here is my list of questions:

    ■ Is a 630W PSU enough for Crossfire 270x (the manufacturer recommends at least 600W for 270x in Crossfire)?
    ■ What cooling should I purchase given my current build?
    ■ Does it even make sense to crossfire the 270x given that I already own the card?
    ■ Does it even make sense to upgrade at the moment, or should I wait for better deals? If yes, what would you recommend I upgrade given my budget?

I don't see a problem with having SLI'd 270x's. 630 watts will cover it. Another option is if you sell your current 270x and then buy a better single GPU such as a GTX 770. I wouldn't worry about the cooling unless you are getting extremely high temperatures. If so, consider getting an after market heat sink and/or some case fans.

Price to performance, would you say it makes sense to Crossfire my 270x given my situation?

Are there any proven solutions to help mitigate micro-stuttering?

To be honest, I'm not too sure. I've never really been a fan of SLI.
