I have been reading older posts about an issue with a modern 2.0/3.0 card in a 1.1 slot. Other than loss of bandwidth, is there any compatibility issues? Some were blaming the fact that their card didn't work on the fact that it was in a 1.1 slot. >???

I have an R9 270X 4GB in a 1.1 slot, you'll be fine.

Edit: I DID have an issue with the card not supporting a legacy bios. But then I got the MSI card and THAT one has a dedicated switch to allow legacy bios support.

In theory it should all be backwards and forward compatible. In reality there are some minor issues however every case I'm aware of the manufacture resolved the problem with a bios update.

Dell OptiPlex's were a pretty good example of this. An entire line of them had an issue with newer cards in older slots but a bios was issued to resolve the problem.

It may impact depending on the Chipset and mainly if the Graphics card does not use an additional PCI-E connector meaning that it is getting all the power through the PCI-E 16x1.1. I had an issue with a HD 6750 on a G31 chipset just about 2 years ago. The card worked and played games but it was not getting enough memory or power. The highest temp I ever saw was 49°C on the GPU.
