I have both the components listed above and was wondering if anyone has experience of fitting the cooler into this case as it looks/feels like it will be tight?

My RAM is Hyperx genesis 2x4gb and my motherboard is the ASRock Z97 Extreme 6.

I really dont want to have to return either if I can help it!

many thanks

Solution
Maximum CPU Cooler Height 170mm

http://www.corsair.com/en-us/carbide-series-300r-compact-pc-gaming-case

Heatsink Dimensions with Dual Fans 159 x 140 x 171mm (LxWxH)

http://www.phanteks.com/PH-TC14PE.html

Conclusion: That's 1mm too much so it may or may not fit; It's going to be very close at best.

EDIT:
Maximum CPU Cooler Height 165mm

If it fits that case, it should fit the 300R as well.

Hmm this should be fun! If not I may have a 300R case to sell because the cooler is going nowhere

Can I mount the cooler so the fans face up or must they be vertical?

Cheers

I'm fairly certain you can mount it both ways:

The SoliSku universal mounting kit provides an easy-to-install rotational backplate for Intel LGA 2011/1155/1156/11366/775.

Note that this may actually make the airflow worse and it might not even fit your case that way.
