The old 8800 GT (i think GT) has finally given up, even after using the putting it in the oven trick.

Plugged in the new 750Ti, PC gets to the windows logo and the green loading bar scrolls a little, but then it hangs on a black screen.
Tried to boot into one of the safe modes, they all hang at csc.sys.

Some googling told me that when installing new graphics cards/drivers, you should uninstall all the old drivers first or this sort of thing can happen.
This is an impossible task for us since we can't even get into windows.

What we can do, is use the vista install/recovery disk to get access to a command line interface. I'm hoping to find out via google what the 8800 drivers are called and rename/erase them, with the idea that the basic windows display drivers will kick in and give me a chance to install the drivers on the disc that came with the 750Ti .

Anyone recognise these symptoms ?
Anyone think I'm on the right track ?

Any help/extremely grateful.

why not boot into safe mode? if the new card preventing the system to boot windows properly then remove the card first. then remove the driver. if you're using driver sweeper program be careful not to remove your chipset driver although i don't recommend you use the program unless everything else has failed.

Without the card installed there is no way to connect a screen to this computer, we cannot enter safe mode.

I did consider drivers sweeper software after some more web searches but I would prefer to do the least invasive method possible if the plan is to remove drivers.

Yes, there is no IGP on that mobo. The old card does not work for this purpose, it is simply junk.

Thank you for your reply
These things you have messaged me are already the things I have thought, but we already tried Repair Install and other recovery options like chk dsk, hardware test, etc.

I am relieved to say the problem is now SOLVED

How We Fixed It Was :

Reinstalling Vista . . . EXCEPT THE FINAL WINDOWS UPDATE WHICH BREAKS THE OS !!!
Microsofts only help option with your broken windows vista is to PAY to upgrade to Windows 8.1 !!

FORTUNATELY, the user had not used much hard drive space, and it was possible to reinstall windows and save all the old data.

For anyone not familiar with the process, when you install windows onto a PC with windows already on it (any type), it gives you the option to take all the old documents, files, etc and you can choose quite detailed what you will keep. In the new windows you will install, in C:\ there will be a folder called Windows.Old which has all the old files in.
It didn't keep programs, but I had plenty of install files to help ease that issue.
The user has been able to access all their old data; so it is more of a workaround than an actual FIX, the PC can be used almost as normally it used to be. Installing the graphics drivers the regular way, to a regular working PC from the CD was fine after that.

The MSI GTX 750Ti Gaming OC Twin Frozr IV OC 2GB runs SUPERBLY only from the PCI 2.0 sitting at around 30-32c, fan speed ZERO. Such low power usage/heat output for desktop/web browsing/YouTube/CAD modeling in Microstation. Haven't tried it on Battlefield 4 yet, but I'm sure it'll make sub-1080p look spectacular.

Far superior to my SLI GTX 460 lol :(
