I'm looking to use a VPS for a Minecraft server because: 1) It is more customizable, and 2) I need to get more experience with Linux and VPSs. I do have some experience with the command line (maybe almost enough) but other than that I'm a newbie at running Linux on a server. However, I am eager to take the challenge and learn.
So I have two questions to get me started:
1) For now I plan on around 20 people, so I want a 2 GB RAM server just for the extra gigabyte to maybe host something else. Are there any certain things that I should look for or stay away from (processors, etc.)? I plan on spending $10-15/month.
2) Should I start with Ubuntu server or something else?

I apologize if this is in the wrong category.

Well, I already knew how to run a minecraft server from the jar on windows and linux. Thanks for the VPS suggestion though. I will take a look.
