First of all, thank you for viewing this thread. I need all the help I can get! WARNING! I AM A NEWBIE TO THIS SORT OF THING, BUT I AM EXTREMELY INTERESTED IN PC BUILDING. IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE ANY SORT OF TECHNICAL TERMINOLOGY, PLEASE GIVE A DEFINITION/EXPLANATION. I want to improve my understanding of PC's and spewing out jargon without explaining yourself is very confusing/not helpful. I do understand most core aspects of part specs though (clock speed, VRAM, RAM, etc.) I would also appreciate it if you added well-thought commentary on why you are suggesting (for example, no "you should buy nvidia bcuz gtx is way bettr then that amd radeon crap" please).
Ok, my parts list is right here---> http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kanjohto/saved/FCzkcf
I will be using this build for gaming, recording, and video editing( for youtube), so I'm going all out. (thank god I have a job. >.>) I'm planning to start gathering the parts around August, since I'm moving out around that time.
First, the graphics cards: I have heard that crossfire sucks, but two R9 280X's are more powerful than a single GTX Titan, for a much lower price. They also outperform GTX 270 SLI Are there any other suggestions?
Second, the power supply: I like that it has LEDs and it gets good reviews, bu I feel like it's a little much. PCPartPicker says my estimated wattage is 707 W and I have heard that having a power supply with ~20% higher wattage is good enough, but there are some places where I have been that say 1000W would be best. Thoughts and opinions welcome on this issue.
Third, the case: I have heard nothing but good reviews for this case, and it obviously fits my color scheme (dat MSI motherboard is sexy as hell, just sayin'). However, I am worried about airflow. R9 280X's tend to run hot in the mid 70C, and this case seems to be pretty enclosed, although I am just judging by the Newegg pictures. Do any of you have this case? Would I need an extra fan to allow for a more acceptable load temperature? Also, I would just like to double check that everything should fit perfectly well within this case. All of the dimensions I have checked fit within the case, but I may have forgotten something.
Fourth, the RAM: I know 16GB is a LOT of RAM, but I have heard that it is good to have too much rather than too little, and video editing relies a lot on it. What are your thoughts on this? Do I have too much? Do you have a recommended amount instead?
Finally, the rest: Do you have any advice for me? Any hardware that would work better for around the same price? Is there anything that I am forgetting? Please, feel free to add any suggestions if you feel it is necessary. THANK YOU for answering. I really appreciate it. Have a great day!
