we have a 2008 gateway running vista all up to date but all of a sudden the d partition (recovery) is full and red! what can I do? It happened in the first 6 months we owned it and we're able to send it back for repair but now they won't touch it because it's out of warranty

Hi

If the recovery partition is filling up it is likely a automated backup program is backing up the C: (Windows) drive to d:

see
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/back-up-files#1TC=windows-7

this referrs to Windows 7 but Vista has similar backup software

or

You should be backing up to an external hard disk not the main hard disk

You have to be careful to distinguish the folders & files which are part of the recovery system and those which have been put there by the backup program

Stop the backup process until you find the configuration options

You need to find out from Gateway documentation what files & folders should be there...

Have you got a set of Vista recovery DVD's?
If not make a set
