Need to know covert a mysterious file type

Sooooo I have a video that i can launch it on my (5 year old) windows laptop via windows media player but I can't launch this file at all on my Mac (this is what I edit on). On my windows I look under its properties and it's says the types of this video is 'File'. What? Also on my Mac it says it's a 'unix executable' and I tried just using QuickTime and it didn't work. So I was wondering if any of y'all knew how to convert this file to something like a .mov file or something so I can use it.

Without knowing the current format there's no way to convert to something else. What codec is used to play it on the Windows system? That will clue you in to to the format.

Download MediaInfo and see what it has t say about t file

I'm not sure what software u hav already but I would suggest then trying t re-encode using Handbrake
