Alright so until the day I bought my new ssd which was 3-4 days ago (that day I formatted my hdd, did a fresh install of windows 7 on my ssd which is working great and installed my drivers on it) my gpu was working just fine with amd 14.4 beta driver, no issues at all.
After installing windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on my ssd I've downloaded the latest amd 14.6 beta driver (which I read was causing some issues after installing it) so I thought that by changing to a different driver (like 14.4 non beta version) I'd solve this issue, therefore I've used display driver uninstaller in safe mode to delete the remainings of the drivers after deleting amd catalyst from the control panel and only then I've installed 14.4 and the problem continued. I then tried to reinstall by deleting manually registry files & folders (including hidden folders) of AMD/ATI using this guide: http://www.brightsideofnews.com/2012/04/04/guide-how-to... once again, no luck and the problem continued, then i've decided to give driver 13.12 a try and again no luck (after fully uninstalling again using both display driver uninstaller & fully manually removing)

My specs are:
i5 4670 (arctic freezer 7 pro rev.2 cooling)
Gigabyte ga-h87m-hd3
Corsair XMS3 1600mhz CL11
Seasonic 500w ECO
Gigabyte R9 270X WF3
Western Digital caviar blue 1tb
Samsung 840 EVO 120gb
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

My gpu is currently at stock speeds (it was overclocked a bit even before getting the ssd but the overclock was minor and stable, i've tested it multiple times for days in gaming/benchmarks, it was only a 65mhz core clock boost, didn't touch memory clock) I've reset it today before all the installations.
Temps are also fine, both cpu & gpu idle at 35C or less (in very hot days 36C-37C tops), during intense gaming (Battlefield 4) the cpu reaches 61C & the gpu reaches 64C-65C which are also just fine.
I also checked the connections on the gpu itself (the 6 pin) - no problem there. Also changed the cables from a DVI to VGA adapter to a DVI cable, still no luck.
The problem happens nearly always when playing a video (youtube/vlc media player/etc) haven't tried much gaming since it started.

I would mention there are every once in a while weird noises from the computer (like a start/failing type of sound which i'm not really familiar with, it's not the clicking though and I'm pretty sure it's the HDD who's making that sound) which I don't remember hearing before getting the SSD.

I'm starting to believe the gpu is the problem but I want to see if I can get a 2nd opinion here. Please help me to try and solve this.

Was your gpu working before you swapped out the hard drive for ssd (if I am understanding that correctly)?

The reason I ask is that the power supply you have is right on the recommended psu wattage. I'd try to set your power settings in your os to high performance.

It could be that it isn't getting enough power so the card is not being recognized. When you go into the device manager what does it show for the vga adapter?

It is a driver problem. Clean gpu drivers again. Reinstall the driver. Make sure you run the installer as Admin.
I used DDU. Make sure you check the box delete AMD folders.

I only had one problem installing 14.6 drivers. The drivers did not installed for me for the first installation. But running a second time worked.
Note the first time, i went through custom setup whilst the second i went with express setup.

Yes the gpu was working just fine before I installed the ssd which was followed by a new installation of windows & drivers.

My OS is already set to high performance by the way.
My PSU shouldn't be a problem, the company's recommendations are always way off. It produces 408W on the 12V rail which should be more than enough for my system.

As far as what the VGA adapter shows - I haven't checked since I'm currently using the DVI cable.

Well I already reinstalled the drivers more than once after cleaning using DDU and yeah, I checked the box "delete AMD folders" all those times & I've used the express uninstall of the catalyst. I've installed 13.12 before & reinstalled 14.4 mabye 2-3 times, no luck there.
By the way, you want me to reinstall 14.6? sounds like that's what you're saying but I don't see how that would help if non beta versions like 14.4 & 13.12 didn't work.

There should be an installation log of the AMD Catalyst from here: C:\Program Files\ATI\CIM\Reports
Can you open it and see what is in it.

Yeah, the file shows that everything was installed successfully during the installation (which I already knew cause I've checked the log when the installation was done).
In the last two hours I've reinstalled 14.6 beta (crashed again) and then reinstalled 14.4 non beta again to see if anything will change (used DDU both times) but nothing did, so I've searched some more online and found that some people have had this problem due to google chrome therefore I've deleted chrome for now. Currently using IE 11 and so far - so good, I mean the crashes weren't super frequent even with chrome installed but I'm playing some youtube videos & watching a show via VLC media player and I'll test it some more to see if chrome was really the source to this problem.

I'll update later today, if anyone has any other ideas just in case - please share them with me.

Can i see the log please.
I had no problems with chrome and the 14.6 beta drivers. I haven't had any crashes yet. Only problem was that the 14.6 drivers weren't installing at first but I got it to worked the second time.

Sure, here it is:
as you can see no driver is missing and there were no errors.
By the way, by saying "problems with chrome" I didn't mean specifically with 14.6 beta driver, I read that people even with drivers such as 13.12 had the display manager problem and once they've deleted chrome - it stopped.

My bad.Well did you update your chrome. I hadn't had any problems with chrome ever with any AMD drivers.

For now I'm still using IE 11 in order to see if I can actually get through a day without crashing, if so I think that's the source of the problem. And no, since installing chrome after I got my SSD I haven't updated it.

that's 408w on a single 12v rail, which means all the other components are using it also. PSU's also degrade over time, but considering it suddenly stopped working within a fresh install timeframe. Especially since an SSD should consume even less power then a regular hdd. Try reseating the cables. You might have jostled something while switching stuff out.

My system is barely 8 months old, and yeah 408W for my entire system should be enough, I mean the biggest consumers are the cpu & gpu which combined, TDP at 260W, that leaves a lot of room for the rest of my system.
Actually I believe I was right and chrome was the culprit, I've been watching videos for over 2 hours & played some bf4 for over half an hour - so far the problem is gone.
I'll give it at least a day before determining rather that was it or not.
