Windows Setup Error

Hello All,

I have recently bought a Sony Vaio Fit Laptop. It came with windows 8 pre - installed. Windows 8 is ok but i thought I'd try dual boot so that I could have Windows XP and 8 on the same machine. I've tried installing but every single time I get an error.

The XP setup loads some drivers for a few minutes and then says "Setup is starting Windows" for a few seconds and I get an error. Surfing the net I found this was quite a classic issue.

I'm guessing it could be related to drivers and controllers etc. Could be a problem relating to IDE and AHCI. My hardware seems to be functioning fine. Windows 7 and 8 run perfectly on the device and there are no disk problems.

For some reason it seems the Xp setup program does not recognize my hard drive. It's a SATA hard drive by the way. I've heard the IDE, AHCI configuration can be changed from the bios but my bios is fairly simple and does not provide such options. I've also tried the registry editor but the keys I need are not there. So I can't change anything from the registry either it seems.

Is there any other way to configure my hardware or drivers to support the installation of windows XP? It might seem weird that I'm trying to install an older system. There are some programs I'd like to use which are not compatible with windows vista and higher. Plus I quite like XP. It's quite a fast and light-weight system compared to the later incarnations of Windows, even though it's no longer supported by Microsoft.

I even tried a completely clean install. I wiped my hard drive clean using DISKPART in the command prompt and deleted all volumes. That should narrow things down.

I would like to find a way of installing windows XP without using a virtual machine. Any help would be appreciated. Solving this would be like magic.
