Hi guys, thanks in advance for your time!

I'm in the process of building a new machine, and I have everything picked out besides the motherboard. For the major parts, I've gone with a GTX 780 Ti and an i7 4790.

The 780 Ti was quite expensive (but I'll argue worth it since I'm going to be using a 2k monitor) and I had to cut corners on a few things, one of them being the motherboard.

I went with the MSI Z97 Guard Pro, as it seems to suit my needs just fine. I don't intend to overclock and it was recommended to me by a friend. The only thing that really worries me is the lack of SLI support for down the road, but since I'm not too keen on running in SLI to begin with, I think I'll cope.

I was able to save a good amount of money with this choice, especially with my money being tight after the expensive video card. However, now I'm wondering if it would've been wiser to just have bitten the bullet and went with a better motherboard more suited for gaming. So my question is - will this motherboard do a decent job for this rig if I don't plan on overclocking, or should I hurt the wallet a little more for something better?

well.... some one say asus quality worse than before, gigabyte only have 4-phases...

Hi, You may want to look at the ASRock Z97 boards. They have good boards at decent prices and support sli. Having said that, if you are planning on running just the one monitor, the single 780Ti should be fine. If you are not planning on OCing, then look at an H97 board.

Thanks for your answer! What you say makes sense, but after seeing the general favoritism towards ASUS and Gigabyte, and the numerous complaints about MSI's cheaper boards, I'm still just a little worried that this one will be prone to failure.

In response to coastie65, thank you for the suggestion! And yes, I only plan on gaming on one monitor, but if I do switch to 2 monitors or upgrade to 4k gaming down the road, I will definitely look into the Gigabyte motherboards.
