All in one Vs desktop

My dad seems to be hell bent on getting an all in one touch screen monitor, I told him I think it's a really bad idea what do you guys think? From my time in IT I have seen nothing but problems with them. They seem to be really unreliable, even more so than other OEM computers and when they do crap out they are a b**** to try and fix. Am I wrong what are the advantages and dis advantages of an all in one over the desktop.

They tend to use laptop parts. So they are slower dollar for dollar than desktops. They use less power though, and they are smaller(obviously).

Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but it seems odd to me to want a touchscreen desktop. I'd much rather use a tablet for that. Maybe get him a tablet and a desktop? It'll probably still be cheaper than an all in one.

I agree with you. This is actually for my sister who has eye problems and can't see. The big screen and touch screen will help her with her eye problem. The one he was looking at for her was a 27" Dell all in one. It will cost almost 2000 dollars. IMO that is a waste of money. I can build her a mini computer and he can get a touch screen monitor and it will still be cheap and better than a crappy all in one Dell.

If it was for your dad, and he had his heart set on it, then maybe. But for a sister with eye trouble. What's her eye issues?
I'd recommend getting a big but low res monitor for her, so that all the text is large by default.
