Selling the idea of a gaming PC instead of a MacBook Pro

I have a bit of an issue/question about gaming on my MacBook Pro and selling the idea of getting a gaming PC to replace it for my main gaming platform. My financial assistant (mother :/) is not buying the idea. I tried explaining to her about how gaming and heat can affect a laptop and that I'm looking to get REAL experience by building my own PC for the first time. I'd only like to spend around $700 for the PC and I've found a set of parts that match that but I need reasons to persuade my mother to allow me to purchase the parts. I want to have my Mac around for university and want to preserve it as much as I can. My computer originally was bought for basic computer use but I turned out to start gaming on it because of the lack of a gaming console in our household. So I just really need to sell the idea and need good financial reasons as I plan to sell the rig in 2018 when I graduate in gr.12 but really just give me some pointers on how to sell the idea of one of these things and the future value, performance, need of a decent PC in the house, etc. I really want to build a PC before I get a job because of timing and I'm starting high school in September.

The Mac Book Pro is an excellent Media machine, but not much for gaming. I have several laptops, but do not game on them as I prefer the desktop. It is easily upgradable, so you won't have to buy another computer, it can grow with the need by just upgrading parts. I built the desktop I am on and have since upgraded it ( Motherboard and Processor ). You can't do that with a Laptop.

Lol thanks for being to the point. And BTW I can't get a job simply because I'm 13, so I can only get a job this December. And the "investment" was total BS was going to explain. I'm only expecting half the money back if I'm lucky. And the Mac I bought 3 years ago. And we have jack for a good PC. Just some '07 Dell Dimension with a P4 HT in it running Vista. I've got some money to burn and really I just want to build a PC. What are your thoughts on flipping parts and selling it as custom? And should I sell it local class fields online or eBay? Or should I per-arrange customers first?

I understand that but that wasn't my question. I want to convince a family member to let me build a recreational Windows gaming PC.

Good idea for the work thing. Lol but the weathy part's idea is non-existent where I live. Northern New Brunswick in Canada doesn't have too much money floating around. But yeah I think I'm going to mow lawns this summer. And I agree on P4s not being fit for Vista. But in fact when Windows 8 had a free dev preview, I downloaded it and got it working just fine on the rig surprisingly. It's one of the last P4s that has the integrated graphics. Too bad my mum didn't go for the higher-end model with a Core 2 Duo. Worst computer investment. Ever.

Oh, btw. I'm typing this on my newest acquisition. A 2005 PowerMac G5 Quad. It gets benchmark scores 3 times that of the ol' hunk-o-junk. Yet it can't run Google Chrome because it's PowerPC.

Didn't quite get the question but yeah it's a mile ahead of the Dell. Nvidia Geforce 6600 GT :D 4GB RAM Dual PowerPC G5 both dual-core. 2.5Ghz X4. That's my desktop computer right now. But I wanna decent PC to build.

Lol. Ikr it seems like it's quite modern correct? PCI-e, dual-dual core CPUs. 3500 score in geekbench. But the fact is, it's a PowerPC computer, which Apple hasn't supported since OS X Leopard. And no version of Windows will boot to PowerPC, but an Intel machine will. The PSU in old PowerMacs is also buried into the bottom section of the case which I have to remove the MASSIVE heaksink from. Then in the process I would break the manufacturer seal telling me the CPU cover has never been removed thus the liquid cooling hasn't been tinkered with. So really, my rig can only support a 2008-era Mac EFI GPU because with Windows GPUs use BIOS, which isn't compatible with Macs, and then I need support for OS X Leopard! So the best card I can get which was an option for the Quad is a Nvidia Quadro FX 4500 with 512 VRAM. So my big ol' dual slot 16x PCIe 1.0 slot is practically useless.
