Hi, im looking to purchase a R9 290X for my computer, i already have a gtx 760, i need the r9 290x so i can dogecoin/bitcoin mine. Is there any way i can have both plugged in but not both running at the same time (I know thats impossible.) I dont want the power of both at the same time. Is there any way i can just have a switch or go into the bios and switch the current active one. I need to have both sloted, but only one at a time active.

No. You could get a pcie extension and have it connected to one of the and unplug and replug. The hassle would be the drivers. Only way it would be worth it would be if you dual booted or created a virtual disk so you can boot into an is with the drivers you need. But if you are getting a 290x what you NEED a 760 for?

Have they gotten drivers that will work with them for the 290x's? Last I checked (few months ago) they had drivers for up to the 280x's because it was the same architecture, but not for the 290's.

Non of these answers really answer my question. Is it possible to make it so when one is on, the other is off. Period. Not them working at the same time. To answer the person above, i need to have both so i can play physx games on my nvidia. The 290x is going to be used for watchdogs and mining. I do NOT want them both running. Is there a part or a software that can allow this. (probably a part.) I am running windows 8.
