GTX 770 or GTX 780

I can pick-up an EVGA GTX 770 4GB Classified new or a EVGA GTX 780 Classified Refurbished for about the same price... Which one would you guys pick?

I game at 1920x1080 on one monitor but run a second (same res) and would like to be able to watch vids (in 1080) and Skype on the second while in-game. Let me know if any other factors might make a difference and I appreciate anyone who has experience with refurbished EVGA products chiming in ;)

Solution

if it is a manufactured refurbished 780 from a trusted site....then i'd say go for it...they're set to the manufacturer standard so i doubt you'll experience any problems, plus they have warranty as well (not as long as non refurbished ones but oh well)
yea you might want to run some stress...

yea you might want to run some stress tests first, without any oc'ing to make sure the card works as its supposed to

Yes the refurb. is from EVGA through Newegg so I trust that. I'm wondering about the Performance increase and also I heard that the Classified editions have a custom PCB with better components (Caps , etc.) so... Still better to go with the refurbished 780?

the performance difference between a 780 and a 770 i think will be about 15-20 frames or even more in some cases...so 780 it is

Think you'll be happier w/ the 780, that's what I'd go, test it thoroughly (no OC on it, but push with vid BMs, to make sure it's good, that way if a problems can exchange, do same with next if problems w/ first...want to be sure it's a strong card

I'm reconsidering... Many sites and reviews claim the 770 4GB doesn't utilize more than 2GB properly (more so when you only game at 1920x1080@60Hz). Also I'm not able to find a proper benchmark/review for the EVGA GTX 780 Classified to see if it may be overkill for what I can use at said resolution... crud. I haven't been this indecisive since I bought my first car :(

I have to admit, when I first read the way you wrote it my mind went to the gutter ;) I was thinking "well vids of "that" might push my stomach but I doubt they'd push the GPU".

I dont know if this will help but i just bought a EVGA GTX 780 FTW and am coming from a GTX 760 and game at 1920x1080 on a single monitor.
I was originally going to get the 770 but after researching everything i could and asking questions everything kept coming back to the GTX 780.
I went this way for a few reasons, mostly because i wanted the most bang for the buck(my gtx 780 was $525 shipped)
and wanted a card that would hold up(future proof)
but mostly i got it just because i read SO MANY great things and saw benchmarks that impressed me a lot!
you only live once so i say go for a 780 unless you can wait until 2015 for the next gen gpu's?
I couldnt! LOL!

Yeah it looks sweet. I'm starting to think maybe just get the GTX 770 SC 2GB to hold me over until the 800's are out to save some $$$ (and possibly frustration if the 780 refurb would require RMA)

From talking to various owners of the 770 it is a very good card and i dont think you would be disappointed with it.
you can always use it as a backup IF you get a 800 down the road?
or sell it?
there will always be guys low on money that cant afford the latest and greatest gpu's right? so the go with used 760's and 770's or a AMD counterpart

Yeah the 770 does look very good so that's why it's an option. I will DEFINITLY be getting an 870-880 when they come out.
I don't think I will ever buy used components. Just don't trust the reliability.

No way am I going AMD. Not ever going to happen again unless there is some kind of revolution where they are price/performance waaaay better than NVidia ( used to be AMD only but I won't get into that ;) )

Thanks much for your input PC_gamer5150, it's much appreciated :)
