Hey guys i'm really checking out the Core I7 - 4770k's Specs over the net and compare it over the core i5 - 4670k i'm wondering what's so good/special about it than the 4670k? I'm seeing some gamers like gassymexican, goldglove And they're both using the 4770k. Can anyone tell me why it's better? And if i get any of the two, should i buy a Cooler master hyper evo 212 aftermarket fan?
thanks

Solution
If you're going to be gaming, all you need is an i5-4670k (assuming you're going to overclock). If you're going to be streaming at the same time, like those gamers you mentioned, it might be a good idea to get the i7-4770k. However, its not always necessary. The 4770k is better than the 4670k because it has 8 logical processors, while the 4670k has 4. The 4770k is not twice as good though, because those 8 processors have to share the same resources found in the 4670k. Both only have 4 physical cores. I like to think of it as two minds in one brain.

A CM Hyper 212 EVO will be sufficient to cool an overclocked 4670k or 4770k.

The i7 has hyperthreading. That would mean that the i7 can handle 8 threads, whereas the i5 can handle 4 hreads.
But that doesn't really matter for gaming, as most games are not prepared to use that many cores. Games benefit a lot more from higher frequencies and better performance per core, not so much from number of cores...

So, basically, there will virtually be no difference between the i5 and the i7 for gaming.

The i7 has hyperthreading which most games ignore completely..... HT comes in handy for video editing CAD and the like. Aside from that the 4770k has a base 3% speed advantage over the 4670k and I have to say I have had a little bit more luck overclocking i7's as compared to i5's .... not a whole lot tho. On the other hand, the i5's do run a lil cooler from having less threads. So for the 3 % (say 5% OC'd) advantage in gaming, few peeps see the 4770k as worth the extra $100.

The Hyper 212 is a great CPU cooler ..... for the money ($30). If budget is an issue, it's the cooler ya want. Ya can see as much as 7 - 10C improvement though moving from a Hyper 212 to a Phanetks PH-TC14-PE ($75), Silver Arrow or Noctua DG-14 ($79).
