For TWC internet, im going to buy my own router and modem, both separate devices, not a router/modem combo. Everybody loves the Motorola SB6141, but its too expensive, $85 is a lot right now for me, then i have to buy the router. So, which is the best cable modem for the lowest price, supporting modern technology and standards like DOCSIS 3.0?
If theyre all above like $50, should i just use TWC's modem for $4 a month and use my own wireless router? The router is a must for me to buy, the modem im still ehh about for the above reason. Im thinking a Tenda W368R Wireless-N Broadband Router, its cheap, has what im looking for, and has good reviews... or maybe the ASUS RT-N10P, its a little more expensive, but not breaking the bank and seems better for some reason.

Please help guys! Thank you in advance.

Not really any difference at all, if you don't mind:
1) paying $83.40 a year for cable modem rental;
2) using a basic (low-end) cable modem that probably is old technology or has modest performance or compares poorly;
3) paying a ridiculous rental fee, more than the cost of ownership;
4) not being able to get the latest and greatest, with the best Consumer satisfaction ratings;
5) wincing at an unnecessarily high cable bill, month after month;
6) suffering through the stops and starts and slowdowns caused by a previous-generation cable modem, an early rendition of DOCSIS 3.0, or modem bugs that have long since been eliminated;
7) finding some other place in the household...

7) finding some other place in the household budget to cut $7 a month, because cable modem rental isn't $4 any more;
8) not getting the throughput you're paying for, if that's more than 10Mbps;
9) missing out on the sense of relief that comes with a monthly bill that is actually less instead of more;
10) missing out on the satisfaction and pride of knowing that "I did it my way" and got more Internet for less money.

But you could just check the TWC cable modem compatibility list and run the numbers at Amazon or Ebay.

For example, $63 buys the #1-rated Motorola SB6121 shipped, or $27.50 buys a Netgear CG3000D shipped (it was on the list a week ago, if not now; while installing it, under Services, disable IP Flood Detection).

Of course, if ANYTHING goes wrong with your Internet service, the provider will blame your user-provided cable modem. Plan on it.
