I wanted to upgrade the RAM in my DELL OPTIPLEX GX520

Currently it has 512mb (256×2)DDR2 1Rx16 ram.

Problem is, I can't seem to find a compatible RAM (I.e. 1Rx16) of 2GB (1gb x 2)

Any suggestions?

Solution
the 1Rx16, 2Rx16 has to do with density of ram chips. I started at www.crucial.com and used their system checker to see what memory they recommended, then i hit newegg and found matching speed and capacity. Honestly the 1Rx16 really means little when upgrading, as a 1GB module will have different density than a 256MB Module.

Hello,

Your system has 2 sockets and supports a maximum of 4GB RAM, at a max speed of 667MHz (PC2-5300)

www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146057 is a good brand and specs, price is decent as well

Hope this helps

I thought it made no difference, so I purchased 2 1rx8 ddr2 rams. But the dell just keeps on bleeping after power-on.

So I guess it does make some difference.

BTW, thanks for your help

Unfortunately that can happen with "prebuilt" computers. if you purchase your RAM from www.crucial.com they guarantee compatibility. Just look up your system using their dropdown menu on website.

Other thought is maybe (not likely) the RAM you acquired is faulty
