I am confused between i5 3450/Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H Motherboard and i3 4130/Gigabyte GA-B85-D3H Motherboard. Both cost almost the same and i cannot extend my budget. I do a lot of gaming.

Solution

The power supply looks really good! 500W should be enough for an Intel...
The B85 motherboard has a few improvements since it's newer - more SATA3 and USB3.0 ports, that sort of thing.

The Core i3-4130 is very slightly faster per core - but the Core i5-3450 has twice as many cores, so CPU performance is a clear win for the 3450. And that's a bigger difference than the extra ports on the motherboard.

So u say I should go for the i5. Is it future proof? Will it be able to play all the games that will bbe releasing in the next two years at med- high settings with a good graphic card?? Also will an i5 3450 get bottlenecked by a hd 6670? Bcoz ritenow im having 1 hd 6670 and am planning to upgrade to a better graf card by december. Thanks for the quick replies .

You will definitely want to pair i5 3450 with something stronger than a HD 6670. Nothing is future-proof, not even if you have a system with 3960x. But for playing games at med-high at 1080p(I assume), your 3450 are unlikely to be the bottleneck of your system. R9 270x will go nicely with your cpu. good luck and have fun!

I5 is going to be far better than i3 as generation difference is minimal in your case. i3 might face difficulties running games in future but i5 won't. Your gcard is the limiting factor right now. An i5 with a GTX 760 or r9 280/290 would work neck by neck (no bottlenecks).

I wont be playing in 1080p. I game on a 768p monitor. This is quite enough for my needs. I could play assassin's creed 4 on medium with 0 lag on my hd 6670. I know its outdated but until i save enough for a gtx 660 I wont be buying a new graphic card. so that will take about 4-5 months. I'll Be upgrading my graf card in 4-5 months.

Oh yes it is futureproof. Intel i5's are always very powerful and ready for very high-end video cards.

It will beat the i3 with all gaming that takes advantage of 4 cores, so that alone makes it so you should choose it.

Hope that helps!

Yeah I'm running a Core i5-3450 and a Radeon R9 270, it's a good combination. The CPU can certainly keep up.

my question is: Will I be satisfied with its gaming performance with all the upcoming releases ? Bcoz if I buy an i3 4130 I can always buy a good broadwell i5 when it releases.

There probably won't be a big difference between the Core i5-3450 and a Broadwell Core i5. It's just a die shrink of Haswell.

Plus the B85 motherboard probably won't support Broadwell.

I live in India. All these cost atleast 15 to 20 dollars extra in india. For example the 4570 is 189$. But in India its something like 224 $ which is way out of my budgeet.

yup thats best currently, but wont it get outdated in the near future or will it be able to run all the next gen games at med-HiGh settings? I already saw tomshardware 's gaming hierarcy where it was in the top tier. Still,I am doubtful. Benchmarks could clear my Doubts.

You would have to spend another $50 USD on a motherboard that would be compatible with Broadwell (The Z97/H97 motherboards), so you will have to decide if it is worth your money to go for that.

I think you should spend extra now on the motherboard, and get an H97 motherboard, and then pair it with a dirt cheap Pentium CPU or something for a while (they aren't too much crappier than an i3, yet they cost less than half). (I would get the Pentium G3220)

Spend your extra money from buying a Pentium instead of the i5 on the next-gen Broadwell i5, which should drop right into the H97 motherboard perfectly.

Hope that helps!

After a lot of thought, i think ill just go for the i5 4440 and a b85. Is this a good choice? Nope i cant buy a pentium and later buy a broad well. its better to go with a haswell.

Sounds like a good decision! If you can, get the i5-4460. It is the Haswell-Refresh version that has been slightly updated: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117302

Good luck!

Considering your budget, get an i3 4130. Don't listen to the benchmarks. FPS on both i5 and i3 are barely noticeable. The only people who cares about FPS are overclockers and the fanboys. Pair your i3 with a good GPU then you'll have nice performance with a low price. However, an i5 is the logical way to go since it has more cores. But there's not much difference. If you don't have enough money for an i5, it's ok. An i3 4130 will suffice.

And what gpu under 100 $ paired with i3 4130 wud give me gud fps on bf4, metro, watch dogs. im still skeptical bcoz on game debate the minimum requirement is just about met by the i3

True, and that is a good point, but as more and more games can utilize more cores, the i5 will be a much better option in the long term and it has 4 cores versus the i3's two.

If you can, I would always go for the i5 over the i3.
