Laptops have VGA and HDMI. I don't know what laptop you have that has DVI. Read this article on VGA vs. HDMI: http://www.cnet.com/news/hdmi-vs-displayport-vs-dvi-vs-vga-which-connection-to-choose/
The article says that to transfer video and audio to a TV, HDMI is great. And it says that only VGA isn't digital so it won' be getting that great quality

HDMI because it transfers sound as well as video and it is pretty high quality. MDP to DP cables are pretty expensive so HDMI will still be the best.

I have an Asus N550JV-CN270H. It has a mini-display port and HDMI port. What I want to do is connect it with a 120+ hz monitor. and HDMI does not support 120hz refresh rates.

The website I found said: that it has HDMI and VGA. Sorry for the misconception. Use MDP for the best support.

-hope this helps
