Hey guys,

So i am at a loss. I purchased a HP Pavilion g6-2264ca last summer for work and absolutely hated 8.0. As such i thought it would be a great opportunity to try out ubuntu. However after installing ubuntu I could not get my network card to work, connect to the internet, use usb etc.

Next I tried windows 7 and of course the same thing, as I found out that the laptop does not have the required drivers to operate on anything other than windows 8. So now I am stuck.

I cannot find any drivers that will allow me to use the laptop with windows 7, and of course I cannot reinstall windows 8 because I do not have a internet connection on the laptop to download windows 8 and my other computer cant even create a windows 8 install disk without a valid product key, which of course I do not have because the laptop uses a OEM key in the bios.

Any suggestions? or know where I could get the proper drivers? I could burn them to a disk and then install them on the laptop, I just have no idea where to find them or where to look.

this is the thing when you deal with floks like hp,acer, gateway and so forth is that thoes computers are sold as is and most times are only supported for what they installed at time of sale.. this goes for the desktops also .. so i looked over at hp and theres no support for nothing but 8.. so thats what your stuck with on that unless they chang there mind... heres my disclaimer i give folks that want to ''upgrade'' these store bought prebuilt computers from these companys i keep this to just copy and past in these threads

some models of store bought computers [dell.hp,acer,ect..] may come with a ''locked'' bios and may not allow you to change certin hardware as a video card.. this is done to protect them from undue warrenty claims and refunds .this is not done to hurt you but to protect them. you realy need to see if that upgrade has been proven to work in your model first before you invest money in it .. there are a lot of these threads here at toms to look at some models will allow upgrades and some dont.. and a lot of guys here say ya ya ya when is really no no no...it would be sad you spent $200 on a card that wount post after you installed it as most find out.then get told its your psu and you spend more and end up right back where you are now, but its up to you good luck..

you got to know the the boards in these computers are not like the ones we use to do costom builds witch are open to upgrading with in the boards compatiblty . the bios is costom made for there designe and just for the parts they authorise to be used on ther computers

Thanks for the reply. However I did not do any upgrades. I am simply using the components that came with the laptop.I just wanted to use Windows 7 rather than Windows 8 and now I am stuck with windows 7 not working and windows 8 uninstallable.
