I live in Alaska, so shipping is killing me, especially if i get parts from multiple places. currently this list spec'd out at newegg will cost me ~$815...told my wife i'd stay under $750, can you guys help me out on some cheaper bits and pieces?

Well, there are a lot cheaper cases in the $20-30 range that aren't terrible. Also, check out http://www.reddit.com/r/softwareswap/, people regularly sell legit Windows 7/8.1 keys for $10-20.

That should get you to about $700 or so.
