Hey everybody,

I got a 760k with a 212 evo installed and it idles at 48-60, and it's around 76 when i play bf4, wich is not good, i know that. The maximum temp my cpu should be is 74, and believe me, it is NOT normal, because most people WILL just say "that's normal", but no, it. is. not.

I have been having this problem for over a month now and tried sooooo many things, i just cant figure out why its so high.

However, i've always been using speccy, but no other program really, so I HOPE speccy gives the wrong temps. What program should I use?

Components:
GPU: r9 270
CPU: athlon 760k (With a 212 evo)
MoBo: GA-F2A88XM-HD3
RAM: 8GB A-DATA XPG V2
PSU: Corsair CX500M
Case: Corsair r300

It'd be great if someone could help me with this problem i have been having for over a month:(

Thanks,
~Kira

2 months.

I was using the stock cooler for a month. Well, using? I didnt use it. CPU temp with the stock cooler was getting 90 at load, so i never really used it. I thought my cpu wasnt working good so i returned it and got a new one, but this one is the same, so i got the 212 evo.

that was over a month ago, and now even with the 212 evo, its high.

what, i have never tried this. Is this something common. I have no experience with this at all.

I may try this if there are more people suggesting it, or if there is nothing else that will fix it, thanks.

Hmmm..with that GPU it seems like you have the minimum PSU for it. I would get a 550W or 600W as your last resort. Could just be an off chance that your rig is starting to use more power than it can effectively put out and this is the side effect.

if you don't want to mess with the voltages try resetting the cmos........ maybe, just maybe things aren't where they should be and this will help... you might also want to look at some of the BIOS updates available for the board and see if they mention anything useful in the pdf's or provided information.

Hm, I doubt it, i've been told that even a 430W would be enough for my build.
Tomorrow I will take my brothers 600W psu, and try:)

Well, actually, my psu makes this ticking noise wich I wanted to make a thread for, but never did.
I don't know, but that might be the problem that my cpu doesn't get enough power.

This will also be proven if i just install my brothers 600W psu tomorrow.

And yes i've even tried different thermal paste brands.

I will reset the CMOS, and try finding updates on my bios, thanks.

Here is an easy way to check the temps. Start up the computer and go into the bios, usually by hitting f12 or the delete key. Let the computer sit there and just see what the temps are at.

My guess for this problem outside of the power supply making a clicking noise is that the heatsink might not be sitting right on the CPU. if it is tilted, to tight or not tight enough, it could cause your temps to skyrocket. I learned this when i was putting in my liquid cooling and i had the lower part of the bracket tighter than the top part of it.

If your power supply is making a clicking sound, that usually means that it is trying to change between phases to supply more power and it can't seeing as it is already capped out. 500 watt 80% bronze power supply can only supply 400 watts with a peak of 500 watts.

I just looked at the temps my bios gave me and it was 38.. wich is impressive, however, it didn't change..
It showed 38 for like 4 mins, then I exited.

About that ticking noise, when I hit (Can't find the correct english word) the psu, it stops sometimes, but then it continues ticking again.

I am pretty sure my 212 evo is installed perfectly though, and I did it twice. The second time was yesterday.

Also, could it be that the temps of the speccy and hwmonitor are just wrong? Becuase I saw some people saying the 760 has wrong temp sensors or something.
I tried gigabytes software, the easy tuner, but i dont really know what it says...

Trust the BIOS, ignore speccy. You're fine :)

The BIOS uses CPU socket temps and it's pretty accurate. AMD overdrive reports thermal margin and is pretty accurate under load. Speccy is wrong with the 760k

That is what i was hoping to see from it. I don't believe you are in any danger. What i would do is only worry about it if your system starts to shut down because of it. I think it is just reading your cpu wrong.
