by liquid cooling, you mean a small all in one kit like the ones by nzxt and corsair. Or do you mean custom liquid setup? Closed loops are worth it if you get a dual fan like h100/110/105, especially if you have a window on the side of your case as it looks nicer than a huge air cooler. But $100 spend on all in one vs air cooler of same price, cooling is pretty much identical. Air coolers do move a lot of air across your motherboard cooling that as well though
