I am almost done with trying to figure out all the parts for my first build but right now I am stuck on the graphics card. With this build I want it to be a gaming/school work pc. For the gaming I want the card to be able to play most games at 1080p at either high or ultra settings (depending on how gpu intensive the game is) and for the school work I will mainly be using VMWare and Adobe CS5 but the school is talking about possibly upgrading to CS6. I know that VMWare wouldn't matter so much on the graphics card but I dont know if CS5/CS6 uses the graphics card for much if not anything (completely clueless about that). Also someone told me that Nvidia works better then AMD with the adobe applications. With the Adobe applications the main things that I will use are Photoshop, Illustrator, DreamWeaver, and AfterAffects. I am at a toss up between the gigabyte 760 and the gigabyte radeon r9 280 (NOT the 280x). So which one should I pick? If you have any questions or comments please let me know.

as you said personal preferences, i have no preference for amd or nvidia but i could say the r9 280 have better features for gaming like mantle, true audio, open cl 2.0 and for editing in general, adobe optimized and etc

Look i would recommend you to buy the r9 280 because it have more vram and its a little bit stronger and also adobe is optimized for open cl, so i would say go for the r9 280 :D, If you think this helped you please pick it as the answer xD

I would say the 760, they are both very close and it will just depend on the games you are playing. i personally prefer NVIDIA having been a previous AMD owner. i like all the extras you get with NVIDIA. nvidia runs cooler, requires less power, and IMO has better drivers.

It comes down to you and your budget AMD will give you more bang for your buck if you look at pure FPS. NVIDIA is has more features, if you dont care about the extras go for the 280
