I need to reformat and reinstall windows, but don't have a second hard drive to swap in to get almost 1tb of games I don't want to redownload. I am also thinking of getting an SSD to reinstall on (8350 is having major performance issues, have to try a fresh install) but then the old windows installation is still on the old drive, and I can't fir all my stuff onto the SSD either... What can I do? am I going to Have to buy another HDD just so I can transfer my stuff over... Got 1 external, but those are slow as hell too, and its only 128gb...

Can I make a new partition for windows since I got a little over a terabyte left, install windows on that, and move my old stuff to the new partition, or should I reformat and wipe the drive completely?

If you already have installed the OS and applications on your SSD then no need to worry about the OS in your HDD as you can manage to resize its volume and make a new partition on it and move the files to you need to the new partition. You can use Easeus Partition Master or Partition Wizard MiniTool to do that. It would be still be recommended that you should have a backup.

Alright, but I'll still have that old windows 8.1 installation on the HDD... is there a way to just wipe Windows folders/Drivers and keep my program files and User Data without moving the data I want to another HDD and then having to mov it back after a reformat. I don't want to have any file errors or complications so... Also, how could I reinstall all my programs again? MUST I install program files on the SSD, or can I run the program files directories separate on the 2tb HDD.

Sorry, new at this. I've done this before, but had access to another 1tb to move my wanted files. I no longer have that. It's nice to have a backup drive, but I don't want to spend $80 on another HDD when I don't even use all 2tb I own now...

Oh yeah!!! Thanks man, Here I am thinking I had to buy a second HDD just to move stuff... I only got .8/2tb used, so that would totally work! thanks a bunch for the idea. Wish I'd thought of that quicker :/
