I have a 1.5 TB My book essential and it was accidentally disconnected while transferring data. When I went to plug it back in it said it needed to be formatted. After reading on this board to run the Test disk,I tried it and now it wont even recognize as a drive. I've tried it on 2 different computers. Are there any suggestions? Any free options?

Hi,

What is the status of your drive in Windows Disk Management?

Under device management it says that "This device is working properly" But its not showing up in "my computer". It's also not showing up on the test disk software I downloaded anymore. It did initially then my computer shut down probably in the middle of the test (power cord is finicky) and it doesn't show up anymore other than the device manager. How do I get it to show back up?

OK I did that but it still doesn't show up there either. The only place it shows up is under device manager-disk drives. It is not recognized anywhere else. I tried update driver and search driver and still nothing. It was recognizing it last week then I ran a test disk. The computer shut off during the scan and now it doesn't even recognize the hard drive. I ran the test disk program again and after 2 1/2 days it said bad disk. Is there anything else I can do or is thing shot?

It's also making what sounds like a scratching noise.

Have you tried scanning your drive with WD Lifeguard Diagnostic Tool? or get a SMART status with CrystalDiskInfo?
