Hello. Having come from a Mac and an Xbox One. I would really appreciate some help in regards to my upcoming build.

If someone would look at my Part Picker list and let me know if it all sounds ok, that would be brilliant.

My main concern is regarding the video card. I'm not sure whether I should stick with the R9 290 or go with the R9 290x, the GTX 780 or the GTX 780Ti.

I was hoping to keep it all under £950 excluding mice, keyboard, monitor and operating system. But if it is worthwhile to spend more for the sake of future proofing, I don't mind expanding if its absolutely worth it.

I will include the Part Picker list below.

CPU - Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core

CPU cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing

Motherboard - MSI Z87-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150

Memory - Corsair Vengeance 8gb (2x4gb) DDR3-1600

Storage - Western digital Caviar Blue 1TB

Video Card - Sapphire Radeon R9 - 290 4GB Tri-x

Case - NZXT Phantom White ATX full tower

Power supply - Corsair 600w ATX12V

Many thanks,

George.

Brilliant. Thanks guys, just switched it out on Part Picker for the XFX 550W 80+ bronze ATX power supply. Is there a big difference between that one and the one just above that you suggested before, between 550w and 650w. Are both going to be sufficient given what I have chosen so far?

Also, what do you think about the graphics card? Stick with the R9 290 or go for something else like the 290x, 780 or 780ti. I want this to last a while.

Thanks once again. I really appreciate it.

According to Part Picker going for the 290x is going to cost an additional £44. Also, I keep hearing Nvidia are superior cards. Is it worth switching to a 780 in that case?

Thats good to know. Seeing as I will, for the time being, be gaming on a single 1080p 24" monitor. Is anything above the 290/780 a bit overkill. If I can keep the cost down and still get good performance with the 290/780 that would be ideal. Coming from console only, what are the life span on these cards. Is the 290x going to last considerably longer than the 780/290 for instance?

Is going Nvidia crucial for those games then? If so, I had no idea different cards were better for certain games. That would be disappointing if so. The one thing that is pushing me towards the R9 290 is the 3 free games at the minute.

Well it is expected some games run better on Nvidia whilst some on AMD. With Watchdogs, it is just AMD not being able to optimize their AMD gpu in time with the release date. Expect patches to see fps increases.
It is not crucial you can give up on some fps performance on some games. The R( 290 will perform well in 1440p whilst it trades blows with GTX 780 at 1080p.
R9 290 is not a bad choice if you are getting a non-reference card like the R9 290 Trix.
