Soundcard or speaker problem?

I am running windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
Speakers: Logitech z906 5.1 surround speakers
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Zx
Everything is connected through optical cables.
The speakers work fine if not great in no encoder mode. But when I activate either the Dolby Digital Live or the DTS encoders in the Sound Blaster Control panel and everything goes silent. The light on the speakers to indicate a 5.1 encoded signal never comes on.
I am talking to Soundblaster tech support on this and from what I can tell I have the sound system set up properly to handle an encoded signal, according to their directions.

Then I encountered this: I tried switching between the different encoded signals in the Sound Blaster control panel in the cinematic options tab and when I go from no encoder to DDL and then to DTS, I get a split second sound burst and the light on my speakers does light up (when switching from DDL to DTS), but then it all goes silent. But, I have to follow that order in switching between the "no encoder and DDL/DTS options", otherwise there is nothing. This leads me to believe it is a driver issue with the sound card. But I am not entirely sure.
Also, is there a way to check my z906 speakers to make sure the DDL and DTS functions are working properly?

As per sound blaster instructions, I uninstalled, re-downloaded and re-installed the drivers and all the software. And it worked, kind of. Things I noticed:
1. I didn't need to re-install, as I originally had "What U Hear" in the sound blaster control panel muted because of a microphone echo. It should not mute the DDL and DTS encoders when I mute "What U Hear". I found this out when I went to put "What U Hear" in mute again after re-installing the drivers.
2. Clicking on the DDL or DTS boosts the sound really high and the system volume controls do not work when the encoders are enabled. I have to control the volume with the speaker controls. This makes my keyboard volume control useless with the encoders enabled.
