Just got some PWM fans for my heatsink.

After installing them & turning my PC back on, My MoBo software (made by Asus) is telling me my CPU fans are NOT spinning.

I have checked DOZENS of times, and the fans are BOTH spinning, and are both plugged in securely, and properly.

I also have them plugged into the proper CPU fan & CPU OPT (optional CPU fan) headers on my MoBo.

Everything seems to be working fine, but my monitoring software is still saying the RPM's are zero.

My MoBo is an Asus M5A99x R2.0 EVO by the way, and the fans are Corsair SP120 PWM fans

Solution

Odd. Try a CMOS reset.

Tried that & didn't seem to do anything.

I spoke with a friend who has corsair fans & a completely different mobo & CPU, and he was saying that he spoke with a corsair customer service rep for a while & they determined it must be a controller issue.

Basically the MoBo has incompatible controllers for the corsair fans, so the fans are powered but cannot be controlled in any way, so they basically run at 100% power at all times.
